WORDS BY THE HANDFUL

Do you want to know what’s on your baby’s mind - even before he or she can speak?  Words by the Handful is here to open the door to earliest communication with your child through signs.

American Sign Language (ASL) – the language of the deaf in the United States (and a few other countries) provides a stepping-stone to spoken language for hearing babies and their families.

Use signs along with words as you talk to your child, and help ease the struggle for understanding with your wee one.  You’ll be amazed at what your little one can tell you.

A whole new language?  Yes, and no.  Just as babies don’t begin to speak in full sentences, just a handful of well-chosen words will start you on your way.

“More please!   I just love it when Mommy understands what I want now!   Since I learned a few signs, she doesn’t have to try to read my mind, and I don’t get so frustrated anymore.  This is great.  Don’t you like my sign for MORE?”
